PROJECT // Cantilever House
Scotland

Modest yet dramatic – this single volume home clad in burnt timber panels extends beyond the natural ground plane supported on glulam timber columns. Burnt timber cladding and low slung flat sedum roof help the house to harmonise with its rural setting. A simple and efficient rectangular volume optimize the spaces within.  A stone dyke wall is rebuilt and the house is set perpendicular to create drama and tension.

PROJECT // Gold Extension
Glasgow

This single-storey rear extension to a beautiful sandstone bungalow in Glasgow breathes new life into the home, replacing a tired 1960s addition with a bold, light-filled contemporary space. The striking gold shingle cladding, expansive glazing, and elegant lantern rooflight create a warm and inviting kitchen and dining area, seamlessly connecting the interior to the garden. A celebration of craftsmanship and contrast, the design has earned national recognition, reaching the final of Scotland’s Home of the Year 2025.

PROJECT // New dwelling house
Loch Long – Scotland

Our design for a small retirement home respects the awe inspiring location in which it sits. A modern Scottish vernacular is proposed with a large corner window overlooking the loch and a simple black charred timber cladding externally. A flat grass sedum roof will be established from the local grasses. The interior is drenched in dark walnut tones creating a cocoon like environment from which to enjoy the wild Scottish landscape beyond.

PROJECT // Extension Giffnock

A single storey rear extension reconnects the house with the garden. Horizontal slimline siberian larch cladding creates a soft modern aesthetic and sits calmly within the small garden. A timber deck is established to the rear underneath the large mature tree as a vantage point to sit and look back at the timber extension. Light floods through the corner glass window and rooflights and the exposed roof joists internally add height and texture to the room.

PROJECT // Extension and Internal Refurbishment

The existing house is L-shaped in plan and the additional extension plugs the gap to complete the square plan. The existing house neglected its connection to the garden and failed to take advantage of its southern orientation. The additional 6m x 5m room provides lounge, dining and entertainment zone. Large floor to ceiling windows flood the room with light and heat. Rooflights allow for top light and natural ventilation. The steel and timber colonnade is a multifunctional element, providing brise-soleil, visual connection to the existing house and exterior entertainment/seating/play and dining space.

PROJECT // New dwelling house

Bespoke design of a new build modernist home.
Key internal spaces maximise views to the South facing garden – maximising solar gain. Thermal mass is employed through exposed concrete floor slabs and timber shuttered concrete walls. Sedum roofs enhance biodiversity and act as a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDs)
